Falling in love again...

Everyone knows me knows that I love my Benzes. I'm a Benz guy, always have been. They're solid, well designed, well engineered, and well build vehicles. I love them.

Mercedes had an ad campaign running about a year and a half ago featuring an old tune from Marlene Deitrich "Falling In Love Again". They were showing off the evolution of the SL series from Ye Olden Dayes to the technological and super-hot marvel that it is today. I do think the new SL is hot, but for the last two years, I couldn't afford a new car. Woe is me.

I was with our landlord's son Frank today on our way to Micro Center to get an ethernet switch for his dad's hotel. On the way back, we drove past a few high-end car dealers, and he bet me that I couldn't get a test drive on a new Porsche if I pulled into their lot with my 1998 Ford Police Interceptor. He's a real gearhead, how could I resist the bet?

There was a black/black 2003 Porsche 911 Turbo sitting on the lot. It's a hot car. As Frank put it best: "This car isn't sex on wheels, it's an orgasm on wheels." It's a hot car. Did I say that again? It's a hot car.

After looking it over for a few minutes, a sales guy came out, and I decided to be proactive with the conversation. I met him at the back of the car, extended my hand and said "Hi there, I'm George!". He introduced himself as Phil, and we were soon chatting about the car and he was showing off the gizmos. It's a hot car. Oops, there I go again.

I asked for a test drive, but he told me that they don't normally let people take it for a test drive. I told him that I haven't had a vacation in 2.5 years, and I'm looking to treat myself soon. He asked for my driver's license, and 5 minutes later, he came out with a magnetic license plate. I got in the car, adjusted the mirrors and seat, and pulled out of the lot.

This car is tight. Tightest car I've ever driven in my life. Any smidge of a degree of a turn given to the steering wheel nudges the car in a different direction. The pedals are 100% action. The steering is 100% action. The seats are 100% action, and the whole thing is all beautifully packaged in a 4 seat (poor Frank, but he did fit!) coupe featuring all-wheel drive and an automatic transmission with Tiptronic. It's a hot car. Fuck, it's a hot car.

The first time I got a boner from a vehicle was the school bus in 3rd grade. The next-to-last time was when I picked up my second E500 four years ago. The last time was when I gave half-throttle to this 911 on the expressway onramp during the test drive, and it practically snapped my neck. This is a hot, hot, hot car. Hot.

It's $130k. I'm thinking about trading in the other cars and giving myself a sales bonus for the big deal we're signing soon. The summer is calling me, and I really have sacrificed a lot of pleasure in the last 2.5 years.

It's a hot car. Benz campaigns be damned, I think I'm falling in love with another German, and this one growls a mean one while on all fours with black leather.

Oh, Frank also bet me that I couldn't get a test drive in a Ferrari. He was right. They didn't have any with an auto transmission, so I test drove a Maserati instead from the Ferrari dealer. Silly bets on sunny Saturdays rule.
